Fluval Canister Filter Manual
Fluval Offers Greater Choices
Now Fluval is offered in two formats: packaged with and without media.
With the introduction of BioMax Biological Filter Material, the aquarist’s choice of media and media placement has been widened. One of the greatest strengths of Fluval’s canister format is compatibility with a wide variety of filter media. Experimentation with media placement is the keystone of the filter line. Three individual chambers permit easy access to media, allowing the aquarist to replace spent media without disturbing the other layers. |

Fluval without media is ideal for the consumer who wants to customize the media mix. |

Fluval is also available with a pre-selected assortment of media, including Fluval Carbon, BioMax and Foam. |
The foam should always be placed in the top chamber. The foam insert is now split in half for easy maintenance. It is possible to discard half the foam and retain the second half with its high bacterial populations intact for continuous biological filtration. This provides an excellent site for Bacterial populations to thrive, and it also prevents stray particles from entering the impeller chamber where they could potentially damage the filter’s mechanical components. Placing foam in the top chamber ensures the longevity of the motor. So, no matter what the final configuration of filter media:
It cannot be stressed enough that the foam at the top is more than just a good idea!
Fluval’s three chamber format provides the most open-ended filter surface area of any canister system and the very accessibility to media. It will be noticed that the packaging with media included, as well in corresponding instruction materials, that the manufacturer recommendations for media placement have expanded to reflect advances in media technology that have occurred since the introduction of Fluval Canister Filters.
