The Chihuahua can have either a smooth, short coat or a long coat.
The short-coated variety requires relatively little grooming; gentle weekly brushings with a
rubber or bristle brush will keep the coat looking good. Chihuahuas with long
coats should be groomed daily with a bristle brush, and weekly with a steel pin
brush. If a long-haired coat develops mats, a dematting tool is recommended.
