The Chinese Crested comes in two varieties: the hairless and the powder puff.
The hairless variety is not completely bald, sporting a clump of hair on its head
called a "tuft", as well as a plume on its tail and "socks" on its paws. An
occasional rubdown with a rubber brush or grooming glove is all that is required
for this lively, odorless breed. However, lotion should be applied to the skin in
order to prevent sunburn if going outdoors for anything longer than a brief walk.
The powder puff variety has a long, silky double coat over its entire body.
Regular weekly grooming, using a steel pin or slicker brush, is recommended in
order to discourage matting.
