Chow Chows may have smooth or rough hair. Both varieties are double-coated,
with the outer coat usually being straight and its dense undercoat being soft and
wooly. Chows should be brushed using a slicker brush, steel pin brush and
grooming comb. The rough-haired Chow should be brushed two to three times a
week, while the smooth-haired Chow should be brushed weekly. During
shedding season, grooming frequency may need to be increased.
