QUALITY NUTRITION FOR ALL FISH

Laguna Pond Products offer a complete line of Ornamental Garden and Pond products including Pumps, Filters, Accessories, Treatments and Food. The line is conceived and designed to offer the pond enthusiast the best possible quality and value. The Laguna Pond Fish Foods are a prime example of this commitment to excellence that is a common thread throughout the line.

Laguna Pond Nutrition Philosophy

Pond fish have different nutritional requirements than aquarium fish. Laguna recognizes this fact and has dedicated its formulas to being complete and balanced for ornamental pond fishes. There is an ongoing commitment to the ultimate in dietary science for fish. Careful study of existing literature, plus exhaustive feeding and growth trials provides a recipe to produce the very best food available. Besides providing the best nutritional balance to the fish, Laguna Pond Foods also consider what the food does to the rest of the environment.

Most pond foods use high ash content fishmeals and other ingredients that add to the pollution potential of the food. Even after digestion, the food offered still has an impact on the ecosystem. Wastes that are high in mineral content promote algae grwoth.

Each formula of Laguna Pond Fish Foods is specifically formulated for growth and long-term maintenance, but to pass our standards it must also reduce pollution levels to a minimum. High quality, low ash herring meal is a main component of each diet. Where other foods formulate high ash contents of 5 to 8% more than can be metabolized by fish, Laguna formulas offer the correct mineral levels required by fish for health.

Since the low mineral content is provided by herring meal, which is also a much better source of protein, the need for excessive grains in the food is eliminated. Grains are often used in fish foods to balance the protein content. However, for fish, grain diets provide protein with poor amino acid profiles for fish. Use of a high quality protein source such as Low Ash Herring Meal creates a food with "High Biological Value". High Biological Value (HBV) refers to the close match of the fish's actual nutritional requirements with the actual values supplied by Laguna food. Because of the careful attention to a fish's needs, the formula minimizes amino acid waste. The benefit to the entire ecosystem is more completely digested food with less ammonia production. The final result is less waste production loading the system, and less algae growth.

HBV benefits the entire ecosystem

High Biological Value translates into a number of benefits for the entire pond. With less waste production, the pond stays cleaner. Reduced organic material means fewer nutrients for algae blooms, bacterial explosions that cause cloudy water, even reduced suspended material. Filter media will stay cleaner and the overall water quality will greatly improve.

High Nutrition in every granule

Laguna Pond Fish Foods are extremely dense. They contain more nutritional value in every granule so you need to feed much less than with other foods. Laguna Pond Foods contain much less bulk, consequently the food lasts much longer. Fish react eagerly and rise to the surface of the pond, giving you the pleasure of watching them feed. Palatability and feeding trials show excellent acceptance and growth responses to the food.

All Natural Coloration

Laguna uses no artificial colorants in its formulas, and certainly does not color for eye appeal. Laguna Pond Foods promote optimal fish colors within the components of the formula, rather than spraying colorants after the granule production. When soaked, Laguna Pond Foods do not discolor water, try that with some other brands and the result is not the same!

Laguna Pond Sticks

A superbly balanced, highly digestible granule for all varieties of ornamental pond fishes. Each granule is eagerly accepted, any leftovers will remain floating for extended periods. Contains stabilized vitamin C to ensure this important but often deficient vitamin is available as required. Proper levels of vitamin C rejuvenate tissues and increase disease resistance. The low ash formula keeps the mineral content to a maximum of 7.5%, much lower than most other Pond Foods. With the combination of nutritionally dense pellets for less feeding volume, the high digestibility of each granule and the lowered waste output, the entire environment benefits.

Laguna Supreme Koi Color

Laguna Supreme Koi Color is specifically designed for the nutritional requirements of Koi. It provides accelerated growth and stronger colors from the natural color enhancers spirulina, marigold petal and kelp. All three ingredients, when used in this combination give every fish the brightest and most vibrant colors possible. Vitamin C, among its other beneficial properties also promotes healthy and good looking fish. It allows the immune system to operate at full potential and plays an important role as an antioxidant, preventing oxidation of fat during times of low activity.

Low Ash Herring meal is one of the best available sources of high quality protein with the added advantage of high digestibility. It's nutritional profile includes a higher proportion of N-3 and N-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids than other less expensive ingredient choices. The resulting "HBV" diet optimizes levels of vitamins, amino acids and minerals. Since the fish actually ingests and incorporates a greater percentage of the food into its tissues, the digestive process creates fewer wastes. This minimizes water pollution and reduces the nutrients available to algae and bacteria that create sudden blooms in the pond.

Krill enhances palatability, while lecithin ensures digestibility. Both factors are extremely important! If fish are not attracted to the food, it will not be consumed. The use of Krill makes Koi Supreme Color eagerly consumed whenever it is offered. The lecithin aids in more complete digestion and less organic waste production. Proper feeding regimes actually produce much less waste than other brands, thus protecting the rest of the environment from pollution and aiding in the overall improvement of pond conditions.

Proper Feeding is Vital

Laguna Fish foods were designed to be highly effective nutritional packages that deliver the entire formula within each granule. Overfeeding with any food is not beneficial to the fish or their environment, so care should be taken when offering food to pond inhabitants.

Laguna Pond Foods, both the Floating Pond Sticks and the Koi Supreme Colour, float for 30 hours, so excessive feeding can be easily monitored. Testing in the University of Hawaii has shown that these foods are extraordinarily palatable and eagerly consumed by pond fish. The challenge is really to refrain from overfeeding. No matter the number of times the fish are fed, they should be offered not more than they can eat in two minutes. Practice and careful observance of the fish will determine the exact quantity needed for a waste free feeding.

During warmer periods, fish can be fed from one to three times a day, depending on how much growth is desired. If strong growth is a priority, multiple feedings can be considered. When growth is much less of a priority, a single feeding a day will maintain the fish in excellent health and reduce excretions that can pollute the pond. They eill still grow and develop beautiful colors.

When the temperature drops below 50F, reduced feeding is important. The fish metabolism slows down and the requirement for nutrients is dramatically reduced. Do not feed more than once every two to three days. Excess floating food should be removed with a fish net to prevent fouling.

Below freezing temperatures cause fish to slow down almost entirely. They do create some toxins so keep a hole in the ice to allow these to dissipate. The slow metabolism in these conditions means the fish will not be able to ingest or use any nutrition, so feeding should be eliminated during periods below freezing.
